Four Corners Textiles has continued to grow. Since May 2018, we have recycled over 363 tons of textiles from the local landfills. FCTR is the only textile recycling center in western Colorado or the Four Corners. We are excited to offer this service to our communities and reduce the amount of textiles going to the landfills! We now partner with the Methodist Thrift Shops, the Salvation Army, and the Mancos Thrift Shop in Montezuma and La Plata Counties in Colorado to bale and process their textiles for use in third world countries. The textiles can also be re-purposed into rags or other materials such as insulation, vehicle seats, mattresses, and other uses.
Textiles that we can recycle include clothing, bedding/linens, purses, backpacks, wallets, drapes/curtains, rugs, and other fabrics. We can also process items such as shoes, boots, sandals, slippers, etc., as well as clothing with broken zippers, missing buttons, or stains. We can even take stuffed animals!
Please separate your textiles from other items such as toys, books, dishes, or knickknacks to aid in sorting, baling, and processing.
We CANNOT take the following items due to safety and health issues:
Wet or moldy items
Rodent or insect infested items
Donation bins are currently located only in Cortez. There are 3 bins at the Methodist Thrift Shop at 444 East Main; 2 bins in the back lot of Four Corners Chiropractic at 440 West Main in Cortez; and 2 bins at the warehouse at 1919 S Broadway. Please bag your donations of clothing and shoes in white, 13 gallon trash bags. This helps us with the baling.
You can also leave donations at the Methodist Thrift Shops in Cortez and Durango or the Salvation Army in Cortez. Again, please use 13 gallon trash bags and write RECYCLING on the bag so that the staff and volunteers do not have to sort through those donations. Thank you in advance.
