Four Corners Textiles began operations in January 2018 and is the only textile recycling center in western Colorado. We are excited to offer this service and reduce the amount of textiles going to the landfills! We currently partner with the Methodist Thrift Store and the Salvation Army in Montezuma and La Plata Counties in Colorado to bale and process their textiles for use in third world countries. The textiles can also be re-purposed into rags or other materials such as insulation, vehicle seats, mattresses, and other uses. Since May 2018, we have saved an estimated 80 tons of textiles from the local landfill. We hope to expand to other areas in the Four Corners region in the near future.
We can recycle any textiles. Textiles include clothing, bedding/linens, purses, backpacks, wallets, drapes/curtains, rugs, and other fabrics. We can also process items such as shoes, boots, sandals, slippers, etc., as well as clothing with broken zippers, missing buttons, or stains. We can even take stuffed animals!
Please separate your textiles from other items such as toys, books, dishes, or knickknacks to aid in sorting, baling, and processing.
We CANNOT take the following items due to safety and health issues:
Wet or moldy items
Rodent or insect infested items
It is estimated that 70% of the world’s population wears second hand clothing, and the average US citizen throws away 70 pounds of clothing and other textiles annually. Don't throw it away--do your part and reduce, re-use, re-purpose, and recycle!
